During the ultrasound treatment, the ultrasound waves, set at the right frequency, penetrate the skin and move the soft tissues, muscles and joints in the treated area. The vibration has a massaging effect, which accelerates cell healing, reduces inflammation, improves lymphatic circulation and reduces water retention.

The treatment takes 5-10 minutes, depending on the region, during which the assistant applies an ultrasound gel or medication to the area to be treated and treats it in a circular motion with the ultrasound head.

Ultrasound helps to increase local blood circulation, which can help to relieve local swelling and chronic (persistent) inflammation.

Purpose of ultrasound therapy

  • muscle relaxation
  • pain relief
  • vasodilation
  • treating arthritic joint diseases (arthrosis)
  • curing muscle sprains and pain
  • treatment of sports injuries
  • treatment of lumps in the spine
  • treatment of tendon adhesions and tendon sheath lesions
  • treatment of tendon atrophy

Ultrasound therapy can help with the following:

  • accelerate cell healing
  • tissue relaxation
  • warming tissues
  • increase local blood circulation
  • healing scar tissue
  • treatment of deep tissue injuries
  • reducing oedema
  • avoiding invasive medication

Ultrasound treatment can also be used to achieve sonoforesis. This means a non-invasive way of healing tissue (without damaging the skin surface) by delivering medicine through the skin using ultrasound. The purpose of ultrasound in this type of treatment is to allow the medicine to enter the body through the skin.

Ultrasound treatment is prohibited by

  • malignant tumours
  • metal implants (knee replacement, pacemaker)
  • local, acute inflammations
  • circulatory disorders
  • pregnant women
  • growth plates in children
